As I was born in 1940, I don't remember too much of the war - but I was terrified by the doodle bugs, and I remember the story of my father, on hearing a doodle bug for the first time, going to the front door and saying "there's some saucy bugger here riding up and down the street with his lights on!" (The flame coming from the back). I also remember lying in our indoor Morrison shelter, hearing the drone and knowing that if the noise stopped, it was a bad thing (I was only 4), and said apparently one time when it had passed over "Thank God for that, but some poor bugger's got it)
