This is a story about my father, who was a jeweller in Exeter during the war. One night, during a raid, my father was fire-watching when the Arcade was received a hit. He hurriedly picked up his watch and a few sovereigns, and ran from the building as it was being bombed.
He lost his shop and all its contents , due to this raid. In the morning when he returned the safe had been broken into and everything had gone.
