As we lived in a rural area,with agricultural industries, we were largely unaffected by the Allied bombing raids since there was nothing anywhere near worth bombing.
However when we were to suffer from a plague of Colarado Beetles attacking our potato we were informed by the government that this was no longer the case. We were told that it was the Americans that had caused this plague, that they had dropped the beetles in a bombing raid during the night!
As a child it was now my job to clear to fields of beetles - yet still I constantly prayed that I never found one of the frightful creatures
