Aubrey Shute aged 21 in 1942
This story has been contributed to the People's War by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Learning Centre on behalf of Shaun Shute with his permission.
This is my father when he was 21 and in the Royal Engineers stationed in Bath.
He was wounded whilst carrying out duties as a motorcycle rider, his injuries were caused by a bomb exploding near to him.
He was at the D-Day landings and he lost a lot of friends. On his boat only a very small percentage of people came back and I think that really affected his outlook on life.
Nothing got him down — they were a different breed of people then.
