You took your gasmask with you absolutely everywhere. If you got to school and you’d forgotten it you had to turn around and walk all the way back home to get it. You didn’t forget it twice.
Some were in plain brown boxes, some were quite fancy. I remember mine was in a navy blue case with leather edging and I thought it was very posh.
Don’t know why it wasn’t a plain brown one.
