My fiend and I were going to work about 7.30am when the sirens went. We were going to Liquorpond Street to leave our lunch at my son-in-law's. We were just going out of the door when I realised I had forgotten the apple pie.
We got to the door as a bomb fell which made the door jump up and down. Eventually we went outside to find pandemonium - slates were falling off the roof of my son-in-law's grandmother's house. We hurried up to the house - Grandma was safe but she had been combing her hair in front of the fire as the bomb fell and she was covered in soot! We looked across the road - a lady had been hurt.
We then made our way back to the fish cannery to work.
