My Father, Arthur Warwick was born in 1917 in Reading Berkshire. In 1939 he was married with two children and was working as a garage mechanic.
He was conscripted into the army and first served with a searchlight unit at Bull sand Fort between Spurn Point and Grimsby. Life aboard the fort was primitive in the extreme.
As a memeber of R.E.M.E he worked repairing building and occaisionally driving tanks when required.
Dad was evacuated from Dunkirk.
He took part in the Normandy landings
After the liberation of Holland he was billeted with local families in Antwerp,he has told me that the starvation of people there was awful to see, and that children would come and beg for food from his workshop.
In 1994 Dad was awarded the Commemoration Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty in the name of the people of Lower-Normandy.
In 2004 Dad marched with the veterans in Portsmouth to mark the Anniversary of the Normandy Landings.
