During the war, rations made it difficult to have a good diet. There was a total of eleven people in our family so when rations were all added up, I suppose it was a little easier. At least mother was able to make a pie or whatever without saving the two ounces of fat and sugar a week.
Living on a farm eased it a bit. We reared a pig every year. The meat went a long way. We also kept chickens that also gave us a few extra dinners and the eggs made many meals.
I remember we used to go to Pocklingtons mill at Broadholme to get a four stone bag of meal to feed the pigs.
