Living in the South Wales Valleys we were away from anything that was important to the war effort and therefore did not attract any enemy attention. Howver we were able to observe what was happening over Cardiff.

Enemy planes were heard and recognised as such because of their distinctive engine noise. We saw what appeared to be a fireworks display. We wondered what was the point of this display. Many years later we realised this was the German method of target marking, perfected later in the war by the RAF.

This was the nearest that we came to any direct action but were sadenned by the devistation cuased by the raids on Cardiff and Swansea.
