When the Second World War broke out I worked at Green’s in Bassingham as the telegraph girl and I used to take the telegrams out to the builders at RAF Swinderby because it didn’t have anything out there then.
I remember that at the weekends all the local children and young people would go out by pony and trap to watch the airbase being built.
