I can vividly remember my 8th birthday party in 1943. It took place in and air raid shelter situated in the basement of a large cotton mill. We spent most nights there during the Manchester blitz. My mother made a real effort and supplied all the nieghbours kids with , wait for it Sauce butties wow. But things were very hard and sauce was plentiful and i can honestly say i never had a better party either before or after.
