When the war started I was 2 years old. I can remember the day my father lost his hat. He was going to show Queen Mary around his squadron. He was a Squadron Leader of AFC 164 (Argentine) British Squadron. I saw him through the window returning home in a rage because he could not find his hat.

I remember hiding behind the sofa to avoid being walloped. He must have found his hat that day because later I found a photograph of him wearing his hat with Queen Mary.

He was killed on 2nd September 1943, shot down over Holland. Does anyone remember his Squadron or the aerodrome in the photograph?
