My great uncle Dave was a suadron leader in the RAF who flew mainly dive-bombers and attacked German war shipping. During the second world war he won five medals, which my dad now owns. The medals he won were ...
1. The Distinguished Flying Cross
2. The 1939-45 Star
3. The Air Crew Europe Star
4. The King George 6th Defence Medal 1939- 45
5. The King George 6th War medal 1939-45
In 1941 my great uncle Dave went to Canada to train some pilots so that they could help Britain and all the other countries win the 2nd world war. On this visit he was given a doll by the native red-indians. The doll has real animal fur for hair and is otherwise made entirely from beads. We still have the doll now it is just as amazing as the medals. Great uncle Dave was trianed in one of the most famous warplanes of all time the Tiger Moth. Uncle dave actually fought in mainly a Whirlwind or a Typhoon, although he he did sometimes fly a Spitfire, Lysander or a Hurricane. His greatest mission was when he flew in at sea leve, attacking E-boats on the northwest coast of France. On this particular mission he was flying his favourite plane the Whirlwind. As I have said he won the DFC. He won that on 24th March 1944 when he led the wing, attacking enemy ships at Les Hayons. Sadly though he was shot down on a reconaisance flight over the English Channel, he was totally unarmed.
In the future our family treasure will be given to me when I am 21. I will then give it to the first one of my sons who turns 21. If I do not have any sons, I will give it to my eldest daughter.
