A box arrived from somewhere in Africa, a gift from my older brother Herbert Lacey, who was posted over there. My parents were very surprised when opening the box, to find bunches of bananas - a real treat!
We were the only family on Valley Road, Basford, Nottingham to have bananas in the house.
I am pleased to say all my four brothers returned safely from the War.

Ethel Crossland, 85.
