(This story was submitted to the Peoples War website by a volunteer at the Bletchley Park VE Day street party on behalf of Augustus Schirn and has been added to the site with his permission. Mr Schirn fully understands the sites terms and conditions).

My mother was expecting me and my wife’s mother was pregnant with her and they met in the underground at Elephant and Castle Tube Station. My wife’s mother used to visit us and when she came when I was nearly 30 she brought Millie (her daughter) with her and we met for the first real time. Within 3 months we got married and had 3 daughters.

Later on our mothers didn’t get on so well and didn’t see much of each other.
