I didn’t want my son to be a soldier
I didn’t want my son to go and fight
But when England was insulted
The one thing that resulted
Was to do the thing for him he thought was right

I didn’t want my son to be a soldier
But like every gallant son he had his way
For its men like this who’s needed
To fight the foe unheeded
And keep old Britain as she is today

(Written by my Mother Annie Agnes Bernard 1943)
