I was in Pwllheli in the summer of 1944, looking after a woman who'd had a stroke. Her husband was in the RAF at Penrhos. He was a mechanic on a bike. There wasn't a lot in the shops, with the rationing; bread was hard to get, but on Wednesdays they had currant buns - a luxury - made with very brown flour. There was plenty of fish. Meat was scarce, but on Friday there were sausages, which weren't rationed.
