As a child during the War i lived in East London with my parents, George and Marie Wittamore. Sometime during the war i was evacuated out of London and my mum was allowed to come with me. We were sent to a large manor house in Winslow, Buckinghamshire, together with about 20 other families. There were always arguments between the mums about everything. Not enough food, not enough bathrooms, hot water etc. etc. It was good for me with lots of other children to play with. I attended a local school about a mile from the manor, i walked there with my new mates and we had to sing "Onward Christian Soldiers" evey morning before lessons. Nearby there was an Army camp and the soldiers used to come over to the manor with extra food. For me it was a very good, happy time. Dad used to come to see us every weekend and brought a present for me.
