Our school was closed and we had school at my home (so many in the morning and so many in the afternoon). After they had gone home, I used to have to put a siren suit on and then after a light tea, we had to go into the shelter in the back garden. My mother was a warden and used to walk up and down the road and also call at different homes to see if all was alright. I was about 10 years old.
