The bomb with my name on it, although I was miraculously not killed, only injured.
This incident occurred on the night of January 11 1941, it may have been about 7-8 pm when incendiary bombs were dropped on Block A, a fierce fire was started on the roof and along with many other staff and firefighters, I joined the throng moving patients to safety and also salvaged a lot of equipment.
At around 8.30 pm I remember thinking I would return to the Nurses ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, before I could do so, I felt myself spinning round very fast - I did not hear any HE bomb coming - I was flung on my face and felt and heard the building falling on me, and of course on many others. This noise seemed to go on for ages, I remember thinking that we would never be found so far down. I continually fainted and came to, my collar stud was throttling me and I could not move an eye lash. I do not think I was buried for long, a couple of hours or so, perhaps, when my head was dug out. I said to the man, that there were many people buried - I had heard them calling for help - he said that they had all been rescued.
