When I went to get my wedding ring, you see, Albert wasn’t home. My mummy had to take me down to North Street to get a wedding ring. And of course I went down, and she tells the man;
“My daughter’s getting married to an Air Force man and she wants a Wedding ring”
I’m standing there, and he says “Is it a weekend one she wants?”
And mum says “Don’t you dare to my daughter, a weekend one!”
I didn’t know what they were on about. This was for the yanks. They got a weekend wedding ring to stop in hotels, because they had to sign in “Mr and Mrs”. This was definitely, Malone road — there was a Hotel up there, and they used to go up there on that.
Well, I worked then with the Cable assembly. There was 2 girls there, very very good-looking, and they had stopped apparently with the yanks. They used to bring Cigarettes to me to send to my husband in the AF, to post them. And it was Sheila and this Peggy girl.
So, Sheila would come in one day, Really crying. And we asked “What’s wrong?”
“My BF’s being posted. But I’m most annoyed because he brought his friend up just to see … And to see all about and look at me.”
And I said “what was all that about?”
He wanted to know … He’d told him that she was really good.
I didn’t know what he meant. She was good at sex!
She says “Well I just turned to him and said - It’s all right for you. I’m not an art gallery, I’m a shooting gallery.”
He says “Come on, show him!” He wanted to see what she was good at. That’s a real true story.
Smashing lad she went with. But that was it. He brought his friend up to see, and says “let him see it”. And she says “I’m not an art gallery, I’m a shooting gallery”.
