When I was called up I had to go to Stowmarket to work. They made “Bomb Trolleys”.

I had to catch a bus at the Old Cattle Market at 7.30 am. That meant walking from Clifford Road, often running.

We sometimes had a “Gas Bus”, i.e. a big gas bag on top and an engine chugging behind.

We had to get off and walk up Needham Hill, as the bus couldn’t make it if it was full of people.
