Germany wanted to bomb the steel works in Bilston, but the nearest they got was Ladymoor. A bomb fell on a house in Ladymoor and killed a whole family. They also got The Jockey pub in Roseville. There were stacks of incendiary bombs, they threw them out the planes. There was no talk of evacuations for us.
Along the main road, by the steel works, they put wires all along the road. They were as tall as the houses and stretched across the road. They were to stop planes landing in an invasion. On that same road there were young trees. There was a fence around each tree with a plaque with the names of men in the 1914 war. These railings were taken down and melted for the war effort.
