My name is Mavis Massey, and I’m 67.
My mum had ten evacuees. They came from Liverpool to Hoole, Chester. And I’ve got a signed letter from the Queen Mum, thanking her for having them.
The only thing I can remember about the war is going to school with a Mickey Mouse gas mask, and a blanket. When the sirens went, we went down in the shelter.
After the war, we moved house, and we used to take tins to school to get powdered milk and chocolate. Gifts. And mum used to make fudge!
