Percy Nutting holds one of four unexploded bombs dropped in the Grange Road area of Rusthall late evening October 4th 1940
I was about fiften at the time living in 55 Ashley Park Road in Rusthall.
The first flying bomb came over at ten o'clock one night. I heard a funny noise, looked out the window; there was flames coming out the backside of it. As it was the first one, no-one knew what it was. I thought it was an aircraft on fire. It was right over the house about a hundred yards up from home.
I thought it was one of ours that had "caught a packet." I thought, "That poor sod."
Next morning, the headlines on the paper were, "Hitler's Secret Weapon, The V1"
