I don't know that much about my Great Grandads time in the army as a normal serviceman or like many a POW because it was never his favorite subject. But as a young child who wanted to know everything i never stopped asking So my Great Grandma told me some of the things that happened to him, my greatgrandad joined The Kings Royal Rifle Corps on the 19.05.1924 and was with this unit until 14.02.1934 he enjoyed this time in the army he went to various places and learned many things he never thought he would. He left in 1934 a man who had given his country nearly ten years of his life. On the 06.04.1938 he was re-enlisted into his unit due to the second world war until 15.02.1946 during this time he was taken as a POW and kept as far as i know at the Stalag POW camp in germany and it was here that he witnessed some things that he lived with until his death many of the things i don't know because he wouldnt tell anyone not even my Great Grandma, but one thing i do know he had to watch one of his friends executed. I had to write this short story for my Great Grandads memory he died in 1998 but like many will always be with us and wewill never forget. I myself have joined the Army Air Corps and hope to do my country a great service just like my Great Grandad had done.
