My uncle was a gunner on a lancaster bomber which was shot down over Germany while on a bombing raid of Cologne on 02/03/45. I have recently visited his war grave in Rheinberg with my father (his brother). We would dearly love to hear from anyone who knew him in the RAF 12th squadron reserve or who flew on that mission. He lived in Barmouth at the time he volunteered and his name was Michael Callaghan. In Ireland during the war, when volunteers came home they were implored to desert by neighbours and friends because so many had been lost fighting for Britain. Michael refused to desert because he had borrowed a suit from an Englishman and he felt dutybound to return it as a suit was then a prized possession, If anyone can remember him please contact me at jasocallaghan@eircom.net
