On VJ Day I was attending a Summer School for Sunday School teachers in Heronwater Coed Coch, Abergele, North Wales. We were a group of young people from Christchurch West Didsbury Manchester. We went on walks during the day and had religious meetings in the evenings.
It was only a little village and we were remote from news of the war.
We were walking along a grassy lane, when an army jeep came along and slowed down shouting out to us that the war was really over as Japan had surrendered. Most of us were only 16, we all cheered and as far as I can remember carried on with our walk!
