The 'mock wedding' Victory celebration by residents of St Catherine's Street, Gloucester.

This is a picture of the Victory parade after the war, mostly consisting of residents of St Catherines Street in Gloucester.

They decided to dress up and stage a mock wedding and parade through the streets. I am the little girl dressed as a nurse and my mum is the 'bridegroom', in the man’s suit with a moustache.

I was only very little during the war but I can remember when the sirens went my mum insisted I should be dressed all in my best clothes including bonnet and everything. I suppose she thought if we were bombed and I was going to meet my Maker I was going decently dressed.

I can remember being lifted up to see the sky all full of planes going over. My Mum was bombed out of Napier Street in the first bombing raid on Gloucester so we moved in with my Gran in Catherine Street because my Dad was in the Army.
