in 1945 he took part in the battle of lake commachio. he was in the first wave . he told us about fierce fighting, and despite the germans being almost beatin,they fought to the end.when it was over his unit was posted back to the uk, and they began to train for tiger force- the invasion of japan.he and his mates were nervious about it as horror stories had filtered through about the terrible things done to prisioners. then 48 hours notice was given for movement to the ships, when the war ended,much to his relief! he was demobed in 1946
