I joined the RAF at the age of 18 years, initially I was a ground gunner at an aerodrome in Norfolk, having been strafed so often by German planes I decided to get my own back and remustered to pilot. Having trained in Canada, I returned to the UK, flying Tiger Moths, Oxfords,Wellintons and ultimtely did a tour of duty on Stirlings. Took part in D day and Arnhem, between night trips to drop supplies to the Maquis in France, also helped to train glider pilots by towing Horsa gliders, finished my tour, then became a instructor on Stirlings, having finished this detail, I was then due to start a second tour, luckily the war ended and I demobbed after 6 years.
