I was at home when the war started, in Barking, Essex. We had a lot of trouble with bombs - windows blown out etc.
I joined the Volunteer Force first, then I went into the Fleet Air Arm. Before the war I had worked for a firm dealing in aircraft parts, and I did the same sort of thing after joining up. I spent my time on Air Stations. They were on land, but called HMS. I spent time on HMS Seahawk, HMS Ariel, HMS Siskin, HMS Peregrine, HMS Heron, HMS Gannet and HMS Daedalus. They were all over England and N. Ireland.
