i'm Irene pugh - i'm 83 I was married in 1941-I couldnt go into the army because I was married. I went into munitions, made shells in a factory. I had to work nights as well - I worked in fishponds. I was an air raid warden in my spare time my husband was a bulder so he was repairing air-raid shelters.
one night I was walking home and bombs were
dropping - it destroyed castle street.There was hot shrapnel flying everywhere.

I was most interested in your story.
My husband comes from your area and has written about his experiences when he was a boy during the war. Perhaps your library would allow you to tap into the WW2 People's War site so that you can read some of the stories from the Fishponds and Bristol area?
