In the Shadow of the Hun is a secret wartime journal meticulously kept by Leslie Penny, a former Royal Marine and veteran of both World Wars. He Joined the Union Castle Line in 1925 after spending 9 years in the Royal Marines. Fifteen years later he was serving on the Windsor Castle at the outbreak of WW2. He was transferred to serve on the Hospital Ship Llandovery Castle on which one tour of duty lasted 891 days. He kept a daily journal under the constant threat of enemy attack and detailed not only life on board but on all theatres of war.
