My lasting Memory of World War II is…being an evacuee. I was 5 when WWII started and with my 9 year old brother was evacuated to Blackpool. Because of my brother’s distress we only stayed 6 months, spending the rest of the war in local air raid shelters, through the blitz in North Manchester. I remember it well.
