There was more exercising in the Suffolk Region. I was in the Royal Signals and we were laying telephone lines in the hedge backs. Proceeding along this country road we rounded a bend and “lo and behold” there was a line of fully armed L.D.Vs shouting “Halt you are our prisoners.”
We had no choice but to obey the local home guard who said we shall take you to our H.Q. I asked the leader of the home guard where the H.Q. was as we had not eaten for several hours.
“Typical of the army, always dry and hungry”
“The H.Q. is in the Pig and Whistle”
Talk about “Manahh from Heaven”
Do I detect shades of “Dads Army?”
