ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½

My first insight of war was when I was a child at Easton. My father was in the local ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Guard. One Sunday he was asleep on the couch, probably having had a few drinks on the way home! I was playing outside, I must have been about 8 or 9 years old.

I saw a Flying Fortress go over from Parham and saw it crash into some nearby woods. I ran and woke my Dad who at first didn’t believe me.

There were nine bodies, and I can still remember seeing them lying around the wreckage.

Years later I went up to the museum at Parham, and was able to find out about the men who had died that day.

After the crash, the American Military Police guarded the site while it was cleared up. We got to know them quite well and they would give us oranges and chewing gum.
