Thursday evening

Dear Win, [Winifred]
I trust you and our dear boy are quite well and have been able to get out this week.

Although the train last Sunday was ½ hour late in starting from Dormans I arrived home about the usual time because instead of having to wait at Norwood Junction [London suburban rail station] a long time I caught a connection right away.

The weather so far this week has been wet which together with the snow has not improved our Air Raid Shelter because today I got 70 buckets of water out of it. I think I shall write to the Town Hall to see what can be done because if this thing is going to happen [the feared attack on London] the shelter will be useless.
I have had another death [of a client] Mrs Keefe’s husband, there was some trouble in getting the claim through, what happened was that the policy was proposed by his first wife, and we required proof of his first wife’s death unfortunately it was found out that the supposed 1st wife was not married to him but only living with him as such therefore it was illegal for her to insure him. However as I did not know of this and his 2nd wife also was unaware of the fact the claim was paid. I had a letter from Mother [his mother, Clara Wallace] this week and she states that Charlie [father’s brother-in-law] is out of work and they are looking for a cheaper place.

I have enclosed a bonus certificate from Provident, Key out of trinket [this was a small ornamental porcelain box kept on the bedroom dressing table] (and) insurance receipts for 1939 and Fire Insurance receipt.

Well my dear very little has happened this week although there was a scare last Monday on the Coast, it was reported that toy balloons filled with gas had been dropped along the coast. And the news spread the whole length of England and people were told to go home for their gas masks however it was a false alarm as the balloons found were our own.
Meat rationing starts March 11th and it will be possible to get a meal out without coupons.
This is all for now am keeping fit and well and wishing it was Sunday week.
God Bless you both until we meet again.
Love from Frank XXXXX
