My parents both trained during the same period at a London hospital but never met. They both became Reservists. When WW2 broke, my mother was in the first group as a Sister in the Queen Alexandra's to be sent to France with the B.E.F. My father, in the R.A.M.C., remained in England.
Evacuated at the time of Dunkirk from Cherburg, my mother returned to England and was posted to Netley Army Hospital where my father had also been posted. They met, fell in love and married in 1941. My father, now a Major, was sent to North Africa and Italy for three years. My mother being pregnant with my elder sister, had to leave the Q.A.'s and waited for my father's return which was celebrated with my birth three years after the armistice.
