In memory of those who died

Before dawn in the 9th of April 1945 several “W.A.A.F.M.T. Drivers” were sleeping in a Nissan hut (named Admin View!) on a W.A.A.F. site near Foxton — part of “14 ).T.U.” Market Harborough, Leicestershire.
I was one of them!
We were awakened by the sound of a Lancaster Bomber — obviously in trouble, we arose, put on the light, forgetting the “Blackout”, rushed to the door of the hut to see the Lancaster heading straight for the hut — We all were petrified and not one of us could move to try to save ourselves. The nose of the Lancaster rose slightly and it crashed in a field near Foxton, just a few hundred yards away from our hut. Sadly all the crew were killed.
We were all convinced that the pilot had seen the light from our hut and managed to lift the Lancaster slightly and so save all our lives!!
