When I was about 15 I volunteered as a runner for the ARP (Air Raid Wardens). In the middle of one night I was told to check on an elderly couple - the doors were not locked in those days so I went into their house and found them asleep upstairs. I noticed a hole in the ceiling and underneath a hole right through their bed, in between them. Downstairs I found part of AA shell in the living room. I didn't wake the elderly couple in case it caused too much of a shock.
