"This story was submitted to the People's War site by CSV/ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Nottingham on behalf of Brenda Martin with her permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions."

I was only six when the war started. I was at church on the Sunday 3rd September, when I got back, my friend Margaret said "the War starts tomorrow", being children, Sunday was a day off work, so she thought no one worked on Sundays even for War and the fighting would start on Monday!
