Well, my dad, who I am led to believe was a naval rating in the royal navy based on deeside, cheshire, around the period of early 1944 to late 1944 when I was born.
My mum joyce was an evacuee to this area during ww2 and had a liason with my father whom I am led to believe was from glasgow.
The stories I have been told over the years have been quite exraordinary, and since I was reared by my grand parents and my mum died when she was 42, she took the name of my dad to her grave with her.
One story which I was given was that my dad was a member of the Dewar Whisky family, this information coming from a very good friend of my mum and her husband.
I enrolled as a member of the Burkes Peerage research fellowship and downloaded the Dewar Family file complete, and spent very many hours poring over their contents,
which proved that the only person who could in any way be my male parent, purely because he is a man, is the current 4th Earl of Dupplin, but, since he was born in 1938 and myself in 1944 it means that when I was born, he himself was only six years old so that ended my reseach full stop.
I am now 60 years old and if my dad was a young naval rating at around the end of 1944
this would make him around 80 years old, and probably still living around the Cowcadden area of Glasgow, if in fact is still alive.
If you read this story and you know of my name and the story is familiar to you, use the system that is designed to make me aware of your knowledge, so that I can perhaps get to know the chap I have for 60 years not known as "my dad".
