FRIENDLY ENEMY.
Dad ran a bicycle shop in the Pitronnerie Road, which put him into contact with many soldiers who had their bikes repaired. One day he had me in the shop with him, when a young soldier told him he was going home to Germany on leave and asked if there was anything he could bring back for the “Kleiner.” As Dad had had a few broken nights sleep, because of me, he thought a baby’s dummy might be a good thing and utilizing sign language for the same, thought the young man might well return with one. To his surprise some while later, the man returned from Germany with a parcel of baby food, sent by his sister.
