My father HAW Beck with his Mother, my grandmother on leave at home in Tottenham London

My Late father Harold Alfred Windsor Beck served with Bomber Command 170 Squadron RAF Hemswell during the war. Father joined the RAF on 6th December1943 at just over 18 years of age and served until 9th May 1947.
Father was a tail gunner on Lancaster’s and carried out 29 operational missions, one short of a full tour I believe, according to his flight log books as well as many “Manna” missions and repatriating ex British POW’s back home at the end of the war.
Father also has in his log book recorded flights on Halifax & Sterling heavy Bombers and was stationed in Germany after the war. His last operational flight is recorded is in a Douglas Dakota which returned him home prior to him being demobbed.
In 1965, my father had a reunion with the rest of the crew he flew with and Father as the host and the Publican who’s Pub the reunion was at, no doubt much was talked over a glass of ale. The reunion made quite a splash in the Leicester Mercury and I have the original pictures of the crew in 1945 and in 1965 and remember as a 9 year old looking up in awe at these men whom my father held in such great esteem.
The crew consisted of: Pilot Flying Officer Robert “Bob” Hutley, Dennis Evans Flight Engineer also a qualified Pilot, Danny Easton, Bomb Aimer, Jerry Cook Navigator, Johnny Newman Wireless Op, Bob Bathgate Mid upper Gunner fondly known as the “old man as Bob was 32 years old at the time and finally my father HAW Beck as “tail end Charlie”. If these name Jog anyone memories maybe like myself a son or daughter or Grandchild of any of these brave men, please feel free to contact me via this site, I have pictures and mission details that may help with your own individual research.
