I was born in 1926 in Nottingham (of SCOTTISH parents). We returned to Scotland around 1930. The Edinburgh boarding school I was attending was evacuated en bloc to a stately home in Berwickshire when WWII started and I have lodged the story of that evacuation on this website under the title "Evacuation - A Novel Aspect". I joined the Royal Navy in 1944 and served as a radar mechanic in the Far East on HMS Vengeance (aircraft carrier)and then on HMS Glasgow (cruiser).
