I was born in January 1917 in Shropshire. In September 1939 I was working in the Civil Service and when war was declared I volunteered for the Royal Air Force and elected to train as Wireless Operator / Air Gunner. I carried out two operational tours on Wellington, Stirlings and Lancaster bombers in the Middle East and Europe. I was awarded a DFC on my second tour .I eventually completed my RAF Service in Air Traffic Control. After retirement from the Service I took a Diploma in Management Studies course and then I worked for GEC for about 10 years and retired at age 65.
