William L Farrow joined The Queens Royal Regiment in April 1939. This was his local Territorial Army unit and located in Farnham Surrey where he grew up. Due to his age (Born 31 January 1921} he found himself at the outbreak of war in 2/5th Queens Royal Regiment which was sent to France early in 1940 and sustained extremely heavy losses in the defence of the Channel Ports in May of that year Later in the war he was commissioned and joined the Indian Army where he served in 1st Battalion 11th Sikh Regiment during 1944 and 1945 as Intelligence Officer and Company Commander. He was Mentioned in Dispatches. He left the Army in 1948 in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and undertook another career in the oil industry on the exploration and production side. On retirement in 1995 he wrote a book 'Long Ago and Far Away'which covers his experiencs in War and Peace
