I went on the old wooden wall training ship HMS Conway in January 1942 when I was 15 and went to sea in the Brocklebank Line of Calcutte steamers in 1943. I had a great time sailing the oceans and when the war ended in 1945 I had aquired the Atlantic, Italy and Burma Stars of which I am very proud.Broclebanks lost 19 of their 26 ships during the war and there are 2 volumes of their history and they read like a Boy's Own adventure story. I was very fortunate and was never torpedoed but I had a most interesting time.
I may even write something about my experiences before the deadline at the end of the month !
