Evacuation from the Channel Islands.
I was born of english parents in Gurnsey, and evacuated in 1940 to Rugby, Warwickshire. I moved with my husband and family to the Isle of Wight in 1982, since when life has become ever busier even though the old folks have passed on and the children married and moved away. Having been denied many opportunities at school and in early adulthood, in my present location I took O and A levels in art, then went on to Southampton college to study art. I am now a very busy and versatile artist and have my own simple own website. One of my murals can be seen at Wightlink's Fishbourne ferry terminal; I run an art therapy class at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice two days a week, as well as having many church activities. I have also built up an historic costume show "English Fashion through the Ages" which I put on at various venues. This year's highlight was to have half an evening at the Mountbatten theatre in Newport. Currently I'm working on an entry for Southampton City Art Gallery, and also the church stage display for Christmas.
At home, we still manage to entertain visiting grandchildren throughout the summer, cope with a big dog and a big garden and have an annual charity garden party. Otherwise we're a pretty ordinary family, and even though my husband is equally active in other roles we do get to see each other!
And we had to go to pre-retirement classes to learn how one might pass the time................
